Zatopek, won three gold
medals at the summer Olympics in Helsinki. He'd already established new
Olympic records in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters when he decided, at the
last minute, to enter the marathon -- a race he'd never run before. Not only did he win the gold, he set his third Olympic record. Zatopek is often quoted as saying

you want to run, run a mile. If you want to experience life,
run a
marathon." "Starting Wednesday April 16th we

banner. Roger I
am in desperate need of some advice from my River Runners
colleagues. Three weeks before the Earth Day 1/2 marathon I did my
11 mile training run and it went great. Two days later I woke up
with extreme pain in my lower back. I mean really low, in the sacral
area. I have had a hard time running ever since. Needless to say, I
didn't run the half, but I was there cheering all of you on! Any
ideas of where to go or what to do? I am really not a good
bystander.
